A bedtime stall.

Recently Koleson has been wanting more control at bedtime.  He commonly asks or says, "I'm hungry, will you lay with me, I can't close my eyes, what are you doing, I want to play, or am I a pick up tomorrow?", etc.  Over Christmas break he put a new and funny twist on one of his common bedtime problems.  Here is the conversation as I remember it.
K - "Dad?"
T - "What do you need Kole?"
K - "I'm hungry."
T - "When do we eat next?"
K - "In the morning.....but we had a big busy day!"
T - "I know you did."
K - "I'm hungry."
T - "Okay."
K - "I'm hungry."
K - "I'm hungry."
K - "I'm hungry."
K - "I'm hungry. I'm hungry.  I'm hungry.  I'm going to say this until you give me food." :)
T - "We will eat in the morning."
K - "My body can't wait."
K - "I'm hungry.  I'm hungry.  I'm hungry."  This continues on and off for about 10 minutes.
K - "Could someone cover me up at least?"
Classic Koleson!  And he did get covered up.

H-LP Flower Girl 2013

Ellason was chosen to be the flower girl for H-LP's homecoming this year.  They pick a 1st grade boy and girl every year.  Ella was so excited when she found out that I could here her screaming for me from the backyard when she was in the house.  After telling me that she was chosen to be the flower girl she proceeded to tell me; "This is the best day of my life!"After finding out it seemed like we had to wait forever for the big day to come.  4 weeks to be exact! The big day finally came and Ella got to go have her hair done.   Then we got home and had to wait some more!  The excitement was too much to wait so she had to put her shoes on to wait TV.

Then we got to the school and had professional pictures taken.  I snapped this one of her sitting and waiting some more :)!  Ella got to spend lots of time with her friend Owen who was the crown bearer.  I love how cute the two look in their glasses!

It was finally time to do their big job.  They both did great!  They had fun!

Taking her job very seriously as she waited for them to announce the queen!

After the cornation is over people come on stage and congratulate the court.  Ella stood there and hugged and shook hands with everyone that went by.

A few more pictures before the night is over!

Friday night the court is always presented a halftime of the football game.  Because of the threat of severe weather the game time was moved up, but the rain held off so Ella got to fulfill another dream and ride in a convertible.  She loved it.  They rode all around the football field.  She sat there and waved her little heart out.

Being the flower girl for homecoming was a great experience for Ella.  She loved every minute of it!

Misplaced time!?

Tonight while reading a Scholastic News to Ellason and Koleson showing the advancement in  fire fighting accessories we had quite a laugh!
Ella says, "This is an old fashioned fire truck and this is a new fashioned fire truck."
Kole asks, "Did they have lights on the fire trucks when you were little daddy?"
Ella answers, "When Mom and Dad were kids they had to use candles for light.  That was in the 90's."
Kole asks, "When Ella was little like me did fire trucks get pulled by horses?  Why did they use buckets instead of hoses?"  Etc.  Question after question led to the differences in time and Kole and Ella's misconception of how old Mom and Dad really are!

Sleepy!

Getting up for school is hard work.  On Tuesday morning after the long weekend I had a hard time getting Ella out of bed, but I finally got her out of bed and sent her to the bathroom to get dressed.  After she didn't come out of the bathroom for awhile I went to check on her. This is what I found!!   She had fallen back asleep on the bathroom floor!

2013-2014 School Year

Everyone has now officially started school at our house.  Travis, Addison, and Ellason started last week Monday the 19th.  I started on Tuesday the 20th and Koleson started today August 27th.  This school year marks Trav's 14th year in 1st grade.  Maybe one of these years he will get to move on! ;)  Addison is in 4th grade this year.  It is hard to believe that after this year she only has one year left in the elementary school.  Ellason is in 1st grade this year and has the honor of having Daddy for her teacher.  After the first day of school she came home so proud that she remembered to call Dad, Mr. Popken everytime except once!  I am starting my first year as the K-12 librarian.  It is a 1/2 time position and I am lucky to be able to teach kids about books, yet still have some time at home with Mr. Koleson.  KB is in preschool this year and is so excited to finally be in school like everyone else.  He had a great first day and is excited to go back tomorrow.

Mom knows. +

While traveling to Sioux Falls this past week wind turbines caught our eyes.  The children started asking questions like "Why aren't they running when it is so windy out?"  After the on slot of questioning had quieted Koleson pipes in with, "Mom knows about windmills and she said the blinking light is so planes don't run into them".  Ha!  Hilarious!  I really like the matter of fact, "Mom knows about windmills".  Not Mom is smart about them.  Just a no nonsense Mom knows.  Smart boy already!
