Koleson's Broken Arm :(

We ended our evening last night a lot differently than we expected to.  Yesterday afternoon we went out to Cutty's to swim and visit with friends that were camping there.  A great time was being had by all, it was about 7:45 and we were just starting to think about heading home.  Kole and his buddy were kicking a soccer ball around a little ways away from were the parents were sitting and visiting.  Next thing we know we see both boys on the ground and then Kole gets up crying and walking towards us holding his arm.  As he was walking towards us he was telling us he broke his arm.  Trav picked him up and while Kole wouldn't let Trav move his sleeve up he did lightly run his hand over his arm and could feel a divot in the middle of his arm.  After another adult felt his arm and confirmed that it was not right we took off for the ER.  The girls stayed behind with our friends.
Sitting on Daddy's lap waiting for the ortho to come.
We got Koleson to the Spirit Lake ER and started the process of getting him fixed up.  The story Kole told us was they were playing soccer and his buddy fell down after kicking the ball.  Then Kole piled(his words!) on top of Chase and he heard is arm crack.  He bravely told this story to several nurses and doctors.  The ER started an IV.  They didn't get it in the first time so they had to poke him twice. :(  They were able to give him painkillers through the IV so that helped take the edge off.  After the IV he was taken to xray.  They determined that he broke both the radius and ulna in his lower left arm.  It was a 30 to 35 degree clean break.  The orthopedic doctor was then called into handle his care from there.  More waiting at this point.  Kole was still hanging in there, but was getting pretty tired as it was 9:30 by the time the ortho came in.  That doctor decided it would be best to put Kole under to manipulate/set his arm into place.  Koleson got to choose the color for his cast and he chose green for John Deere.  We were able to be with him until about 9:50 then they took him into the OR to set and cast his arm.  He was so brave as they were wheeling him down to surgery he was repeating the verse "When I am afraid, I will trust in you."  He didn't have surgery, they just put him under to help with pain/ease of setting the break.  The doctor came out to talk to us about 10:50 to let us know that everything went well and Koleson was in recovery.  Kole woke up about 11:30 and were able to head for home about 12:15.
He has been in quite a bit of pain and doesn't really like to take medicine so that has been a struggle.  Trav was up with Kole from 2-6.  Koleson watched some shows on Prime and slept fitfully.  At 6 I took over for Trav.  Koleson was up from 6:30 to 9:30 watching shows, eating breakfast and taking medicine.  He fell back asleep at 9:30 and has been sleeping well for the last 4 hours.
X-Ray of the broken bones.
Going forward he has to be in the cast for the next 6 weeks.  It is a full arm cast because of where he broke the bones.  They didn't want him to be able to move his elbow so he is casted from his armpit down to his hand.  We have a sling for him to wear to help with the weight of the cast.  You can pray for pain management as he has been in quite a bit of pain and acceptance of the injury for him.  He is so very sad that it happened and keeps asking questions about why this happened to him.  The crocodile tears are breaking our hearts!  He is also realizing all the things that he will not be able to do for awhile.
Sleeping peacefully.
