Spring fever

The girls had an early out today for teacher in service. We are getting pretty tired of being in the house and it was beautiful outside today. I challenged them to make a snowman. Since we don't have much snow she couldn't make a big one, but Addi made these two cute little ones. Kole and Ella decided to swing in all their winter gear. We are hopeful that in a few weeks all the snow will be gone and they won't have to have quite so many layers!

Elementary Extravaganza

This past week our elementary school had their extravaganza.  This is a night when the student get to display different projects that they have been working on.  Addi had the opportunity to display 3 different thing.  Her first project was for challenge center.  They had to come up with a scientific question and research the answer.  Addi chose to research 'What are diamonds?'  She wrote a report and then had to put together a display board on her topic.

At the extravaganza Addi then had to stand by her display and answer questions.  We are so proud of all her hard work!!

Kole was very interested in these projects.  It was pretty hard to look and not touch!!  He even asked if he could go there someday.

Another project that Addi worked on was a topic from Washington D.C. She chose the Lincoln Memorial. She had to create a display board and then have some type of a model. She chose to use a 3-D puzzle for her model. It was extra special for me to see her project because I created this unit when I taught 3rd grade.

Ella also had pictures on display.  She is standing underneath the hat that she colored.  Hers is the one at the top.  We had a few other highlights of the night.  Addi's other project was an eagle that she drew in art class.  Ella, Kole and I got to listen to Travis's 1st graders do a reader's theatre of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar.'  There was also a book fair benefiting the elementary library where the kids got to choose a book to buy.

According to Kole....

Kole is going through an interesting stage right now where there is no arguing with him if he has an idea in this head.  We have gotten to the point where rather than arguing we just tell him that we don't agree.  For example:

Kole is convinced that his grandparents are currently sailing the ocean on their own pirate ship.  Really they are just on a cruise!

Kole thinks that he is going to be a cow when he grows up and will give milk.  Because according to him boy cows can give milk too, not just girls.

A few weeks ago Kole received many valen'times' from his friends.  (You can only try to tell him it's Valentines so many times!!)

Several times a week I will be told by Kole that this is taking forever.  We were talking about how his birthday was coming up in a few weeks.  He informed me it was taking forever to get here and he was hungry for cake NOW!

Good Decisions

Ella brought this home from school the other day and it is too cute not to share. She had to draw a picture of someone who helps her make good decisions. She drew her Uncle Curt!
